What is Justice?

•November 17, 2008 • Leave a Comment

Justice is the something that is accomplished by the people. Justice is honor. Its something that cant be accomplished or seen just by the wave of a wand. It involves hard work, determination and strength. We the people are those who make justice and make our community fair. If we feel that justice hasn’t been made its only because we aren’t working hard enough.

I believe that American Society is as fair as it can get. There are many things for example: immigration laws, and same sex marriage laws that would help shape American to be what it is. A free country. But it doesn’t always seem that way because we are tied down by certain laws that don’t let us be happy.

Sometimes crimes aren’t always justified. Whatever the crime might be. In most cases the poor man is left behind bars, while the rich man pays off bail and is left with a warning and continues to do as he pleases.

If there is enough proof that can support the person and show that it was an accident then yes, the crime should be punished differently. But there should still be some sort of punishment.

Age sometimes doesn’t really matter. Give a kid a lolly pop and he might do it. Kids are always looked at as the innocence of the world, but It isn’t always that way. There are many little kids that do bad things. Its obvious that a 5 year old doesn’t know any better and doesn’t even know what it means to commit a crime. I believe that by the age of 8 you should know better and know that you shouldn’t do certain things. As for being tried as an adult, I believe a reasonable age would be 15 or16.

About two years ago I had a very harsh argument with my father which ended horribly. Since then we have not spoken or seen each other. I guess our egos are too big that we haven’t even tried to contact one another. There are times I do wish to speak to him but I don’t. There is no way that I would forgive him for the unfair, hurtful things he said to me and my mom. No way. I’m his daughter and I should be given more respect. He had no right to say the things he said. The fair outcome would have been, him acting like an adult and answering yes or no the simple question I had. All I asked of him was to give a small amount of money In cooperation towards my sweet sixteen. That’s all, and he didn’t have to, we asked if he could and he went ballistic.

Absurdism

Is life “absurd”? In other words, does life make sense? YES. We were put on this earth to help it evolve. We are what make the earth keep going. We keep the cycle of reproduction and evolution ongoing. Humans build construct buildings, keep businesses running and reproduce, Plants and animals maintain the wild life.

Does life have a meaning or purpose? If so, what is it? How do you know this is the purpose of life? YES. Everyone is different yet we all seem to connect. We all have to do our part to keep earth alive as well as everything in it. Our main purpose in life would be to live reproduce to keep the species living. People shape the future. Just like the government. Whatever they decide to do now will effect the present and future. We make all the changes.

Was there a purpose (or essence) to life before you got here? Or did you exist before you purpose existed? YES. Before I existed I was a baby inside my mom’s womb and before that, I was my mother’s purpose of existence. My mom wanted to have a baby and planned to have me to start a family with my father. Or I could’ve been a unicorn in my past life who know???

Without a purpose or meaning to life, could there still be a reason to live? YES. We don’t need a purpose to live. What if we were created just to fill up the earth. To make it look busy and excited. Maybe we were created to search for our own purpose in life. Everyone follows their own dreams. There is no manual that we follow on how we should live our lives. You are the one to decide what path you take in life and what you make of it.

Does it matter whether or not there is a god or some higher, all powerful, all-knowing force that created and controls the universe? NO. I don’t think it matters because its not like we can see it/ them. We will never be for sure who/ what created us. So, might as well just appreciate that we are here and move on.

What happens to you when you die? Is there life after death? How do you know? I believe that once your dead, your dead. Does it really matter if you keep “living” after death? What do you live for, if you can live forever? Why would you want to? I don’t know. Resurrection. Nobody knows if you are going to be resurrected after you die. So why bother with the impossible.

Does it matter what happens after we die? Would you live your life differently if you knew you were never going to die? It doesn’t. You probably went even know you die when you are reborn. You’ll think that it’s the first time you were being born.

Is it possible to create your own meaning for life? YES. That’s what everybody does. Everybody is different. Someone can decide to be a criminal or a lawyer, A designer or a football player. Who knows? You know?

If you could create your own meaning or purpose for life. What would it be? YES. It would be to full fill complete happiness. To have no memory of any tragic event that occurred in my lifetime and go on in life being happy as can be successfully and emotionally. Off with the bad and on with the good, go to college, get married, start a family, have my dream house and car, save money, take vacations, have a room full of shoes, help the needy. That to me is the life.

Love and Marriage in the Prophet

•October 17, 2008 • Leave a Comment

From the chapter “On Love” I chose the quotes: “Love gives naught but itself and takes naught but from itself. Love possesses not nor would it be possessed.”, “When you love you should not say, “God is in my heart,” but rather, “I am in the heart of God.” And think not you can direct the course of love, for love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course.”, and “Love has no other desire but to fulfill itself.  … To know the pain of too much tenderness. To be wounded by your own understanding of love.” I believe Gibran intends to explain love as something that it too great, too good, that it hurts to have too much of it. Even so, how love can guide you to happiness it may gear you to be condemned. Love is something so powerful that you shouldn’t try to control because it too can control you. The advice he gives us is to let it guide you and if all is meant to be, it shall be.

From the chapter “On Marriage” I chose the quotes: “You were born together, and together you shall be forevermore.”, “But let there be spaces in your togetherness, and let the winds of the heavens dance between you.”, “Love one another but make not a bond of love.”, “Give your hearts, but not into each other’s keeping. For only the hand of life can contain your hearts.” These quotes are intended to make the reader feel more captivated. I felt like he was trying to tell me that I shouldn’t always feel so dependent on another but still let the love be alive. In other words, let love run free but still has some self control and dignity. When in love, one must know their limits. Yes, you can be happy with someone and love them deeply but should you have to give them your all, or just a part, just a gesture? I believe that having space in between is very good in a relationship. Personally, I only see my boyfriend once, during the weekend. So, at the beginning of each week, i’m always looking forward to the end of the week when we get to see each other again. It makes you want to see the other with such great emotion that you probably wouldn’t feel if you were to see them everyday or very often. As much as I can say that Love can live and prosper, it can also die and wear out.

Gibran’s overall definition of “Love” is that if it can unfold happiness, it may also unfold sadness. You should let love be as it is and not try to control it because love cannot be possessed. Gibran’s overall definition of “Marriage” is that it should be shared but not given completely between two. There should be space yet enough affection. To always be together but not too close, distance makes one another realize their true feelings and emotions.

I absolutely agree with Gibran’s definition of love. I believe that there are times when you can give the other your all as a true sign of love, but its not something you should do all the time. There is such a thing as too much love.

My Duality

•October 17, 2008 • Leave a Comment

The two traits that I believe I possess would be Happy vs. Sad. Throughout my life I have had tragic and horrible experiences, one after the other. Yet there are times that I build up enough strenght to smile and laugh as if I was never confronted with such experiences. I am very grateful to be living. There is no day that I don’t wake up thanking god for another day I get to live. I do have to be honest that there are times where I do feel like the path im headed for will destory me and make me a very neautral person. I don’t want to leave this world knowing I didn’t live life to its fullest. I want to leave knowing that i made my mark and I did all that I could do. When im happy, Im myself. I smile, laugh and enjoy every second of life. I like to make others happy too. If it is in my ability to do something for another, consider it done. When it comes to having fun, im always front in ceter. After having so much fun at the end of the day, I refresh my mind with happy thoughts and reminice of good times. From having so many happy thoughts, sometimes there are bad, unhappy thoughts that intervine. That put me in a state un depression and lonliness. When I feel sad I isolate myself from the world. I make myself invisible. But, when I am able to be seen, I put on an act. I show everyone a smile and laugh a little. So I wonder ? Am I really always sad and just carrying on an act of happiness for others viewing pleasure or am I really happy but sad times get to me? I would like to think that im Happy and that everybody gets sad at times. I believe that you should always feel both ways. Well, you should feel Happy more than you should feel Sad but its good to feel Sad occasionally. When you feel sad you think negativley and remember bad times. When goodtimes come around, you’ll have even more fun than usual because you’ll have one of those .. “ Ive never felt this happy” moments, Because you usually felt so sad. I feel like my Happy trait is stronger because I feel more happy than I do sad. My sad days come and go quickly. I get over things. I could be very differnet if I didn’t have these traits or if I didn’t have one of them. Because this is a very common trait, everybody feels happy atleast once in their lives as well as they do sad. But you cant have one without the other. In order to feel happier than ever, you must have once felt sadness.

Anonomous Relationships

No. I don’t think its possible to love someone who you have never met. You can feel some sort of affection towards the person because of how they speak to you or from the description they give you of their appearance.

Someone might want to try new things and might want to start a cyber-relationship just to try it. But you have to be careful with what you show and say to people you don’t really know.

Yes, there are many dangers to being in  a cyber-relationships. You never know who your talking to. They could just be playing games with you. And you can fall for someone online and then they end up not talking to you anymore. You can end up heart broken and emotional disturbed that it affects you really bad.

I wouldn’t be able to compare the two because I don’t have cyber relationship experience but from what ive heard, its very dangerous so I’d stick to the “real” relationships. I want to know who my man is and what im dealing with here.

Yes, they should have the same chance of working out. Besides, in the end, a relationship is a relashionship. There is no real way to love someone.

It can become very easy to feel that way. Since they don’t see each other and they only talk, they wouldn’t know whats happening when they are not around. You just have to know how to trust someone, I guess.

Well it depends, some people are nice and will understand why they kept that from them or why they lied about something. On the other hand some people will feel used or betrayed and the trust will completely go away or fade.

I don’t think so. Like it said, it’s a new way of communication with people. But then again a person can become addicted to talking to people on the internet and that wont be good for your mental health.

Society will only unfold to be what it has to be. If society gets worse its because there will be some positive outcome from it. For every wrong there is a right. Right?

Yes, My older brother had a girlfriend that he met online. Her name was Roxane, and she lived in Texas. They were Cyber Dating for about 2 years. Yeah, I know? They had never seen each other in person, only through pictures and video. But they were madly In love. But all that rises can fall. She was suppose to end up coming from Texas to San Diego and lets say that she ended up not showing up. My brother felt very emotionally depressed for months because she never showed. But he eventually got over it.

I know I wont. I need to be able to see the person up close and personal. I love being hugged and kissed. I like to go hang out and experience new things with my significant other. I would feel very lonely without him near me.

What is love?

•October 1, 2008 • Leave a Comment

I’d have to agree with Aristotle. Friendship is a very important thing in life. People base their lives on who their friends are, who they hang out with and what they talk about. Being friends with someone, there is respect, honesty, and a mixture of other actions and emotions. Being friends, you listen more to them and take in the little things. You understand where they are coming from and why they feel the way they feel. But once the friendship has its turn point and becomes serious there are major changes. You wont act the same towards each other. There could be mixed signals that weren’t there before because you were use to communicating like friends and not as a couple. Love is beautiful and should be cherished not thrown away. If you cant love yourself and love someone first as a friend. You don’t know the true meaning of love.

Love Survery

My definition of love is undefined and it should stay that way. Love is a variable. That’s what makes love … love. It’s an unexplainable feeling/action. Love can be anything!

I believe that we can’t be absolutely sure that love is real. But there is some sort of unexplainable, indefinable feeling that makes people go crazy for each other.

At first you could be falling in love and not realize it until something big occurs and slaps you in the face. They’ll realize how you really feel and will act upon feeling.

You always have the ability, the right to chose who you can love and be happy with. Nobody can neglect that right from you.

Yes, falling in love is like a process. At first you don’t know it, and when you do know it you go crazy thinking if they are your soul mate and whether it will last forever or not.

True love does exist. But, it doesn’t necessarily mean that that it will last forever. True love can end. It just meant that when they were together it was beautiful and they won’t ever forget one another.

You can never be too sure that someone else loves you. You’ll know that they feel some sort of affection or liking towards you. But you can’t be too sure until the person shows you and confirms to you. Unless it’s some sort of action where love cannot be denied.

I use to think that you couldn’t love two people at once. But it is possible. But if you think about it, you will always love one more than the other. But you won’t know who it is.

There are many connections between love, romance and sex. One leads to another. Love can start as a simple affection shown towards one another. Then it turns into romance with passionate hugs and kisses. Then it results into having sex; a feeling of desire and pleasure towards one another.

One can be blinded by love. They can be so deeply in love that they will only want to see the positive remarks in someone but deny and neglect the negative even when warmed or stroked.

You should get more of both. You should get the same when you put in as well as what you get out. Personally, I put into love more than I get out of love sometimes.

It is very possible for love to fade. Love is as fragile as a rose pedal. It can start out as a beautiful rose and if it is tampered with it can begin to fall apart and will be left with only a stem. Just how love can be born and live, it can die.

Love is very powerful but not powerful enough to conquer all. It can conquer most but not all.

Most men and women see love differently. Some men want to stick it out as “macho” where they don’t have to show their emotions to their love, they just have to tell them because they should already know that they love them. Women on the other hand feel that they should be shown frequently. When it comes to love, yes, I personally believe that women are the weaker sex. It’s not always that way. But it’s somewhat true.

Sophie’s World Ch.2 Quotes

•September 17, 2008 • Leave a Comment

P.12 “But there is something else … which everyone needs, and that is to figure out who we are and why we are here.” Sophie came upon a philosophy book and she is getting interested on the subject. She asks herself if there is anything we’ll need after all basic needs have been satisfied. She wonders what we are here for and why it is we are here for that. My opinion is that it doesn’t matter how we got here and why we are here for. I believe its more important to know where we’re headed.

P.14 “P.S. As far as the white rabbit is concerned, it might be better to compare it to the whole universe. We who live here are microscopic insects existing deep down in the rabbit’s fur. But, philosophers are always trying to climb up in the fine hairs of the fur in order to stare right into the magician’s eyes.” In this part of the story, Sophie is wondering what is the best way to live. Planning everything and being prepared or living day by day expecting things to fall in place? Once again I know it is a very mysterious world because there are many things about this planet we urge to know. But, if it were important to have knowledge of how the world began and who the first people were we’d be born with this knowledge or we’d have it all passed down. Because we don’t have the answers to things, all we have are myths.

P.15’THE ONLY THING WE REQUIRE TO BE GOOD PHILOSOPHERS IS THE FACULTY OF WONDER. Baby’s have this faculty. That is not surprising. After a few short months in the womb they slip out into a brand new reality. But as they grown up the faculty of wonder seems to diminish. Why is this? Do you know?” Sometimes people grow tired of wondering about things and not getting the answers they want or when they want them. That’s why as babies we wonder because the world is knew to us but, wont it always be new. New things are discovered everyday and there are still many things yet to be revealed. Sometimes a person’s faculty of wonder has not vanished its just on pause.

The Purpose of Life

•September 17, 2008 • Leave a Comment

Yes, I do believe philosophy is important because it teaches us a lot and gives us insight on a lot of unknown things. I believe we are all philosophers. We are somehow all curious about everything in existence. I think the most important thing in life is feeling satisfied with your accomplishments and having control of your actions. I think this because it would be pretty difficult to lead a steady and calm lifestyle without control. We are here on earth to support one another in dominating world peace. The world wouldn’t be what it is today without affection. I don’t think life has a purpose but the world does. The world’s purpose for existence is to keep all of us in it and maintain it in one piece. Some people find it difficult to live without knowing their purpose for living. For me, its like whatever. Even if I know what im here for, my personality wont change. And you never know. Things change even when you don’t want them to. You can never be too sure of who you are and what you here for, but you can be very close to the answer. Only those who have died and have been resurrected can know if there is life after death and what its like. I believe there is life after death. But hey, I could be wrong. I’d have to die to know for a fact. There is no right way or wrong way to live life. People live their lives they way they feel most comfortable. Its completely up to you how you want to live. There is one thing though. Everyone should live healthy and happy. There are people who have more than what they need and rejoice from their materialistic needs, while there are children dying of hunger and a need of a family. So, to me everyone should live happy and healthy. That is the right way. I would like to live life at the tip of a rabbit’s hair because life’s short and I want to live life all I can before its gone. Before I begin a new life. I want the ability to leave this world, this body, satisfied of my accomplishments and know my family was proud of me. I live day by day, second by second with goals and dreams. I know that when I leave this world I will be missed and remembered. I know who I am and who I want to be.

Message from the Sky

•September 11, 2008 • Leave a Comment

The poem is about what happened on September 11th. In the poem it describes how people are syaing their goodbyes to their loved ones. The poem made me feel very emotional. I feel bad for all the people who died that day. I remember that day very clearly. I was standing outside of my classroom at Rosa Parks. There were two boys named Jacob and Romel that were making airplane noises and crashing their hands together. My teacher was approaching us when she overheard the two kids talking about it. My teacher was struck upset. Once we all settled in out seats she lectured us on the issue. She turned on the news and made us watch it the rest of the day. Our homework assignment was to draw somthing honoring the innocent people that died that day and our troops that helped out. I dont think i’d call anyone and let them know that i was going to die because it would be too painful. But if i had to, i would just say thank you and i love you for everything youve done for me in my life! I wouldnt say goodbye because i will see them again someday.
